Hi there Opal. Goodness, you had quite the adventure. BC?? I am so jealous. Your "hike"? Not jealous but been there and done similar things. The best way to good judgment is experiencing bad judgment, believe me I know. Well, maybe it is not the best way, but it is most common, then prompts us to seek out what we need. The excellent news is you were out there, exploring, having a beautiful day and time and loving it. You learned some things the hard way and wont make those mistakes again. Nice move with the towel wraps. Glad you had a cell phone. It is always a tough call of when to quit on your own and ask for help. Sounds like the local authorities are used to people getting lost, they certainly didn't panic or call out the helicopters. Or even say anything nice. I know you know your mistakes, just don't be too hard on yourself and make sure to keep getting out there. Next time definitely go for the map, compass, and hiking partner. In a solo pinch go for super popular hiking trails that are really well marked. And if you really get into the wilderness you can be a geek like me and take all the classes, and then still have to learn by trial and error. Good luck my dear, and keep rocking on. Beth Kinney
